Below are Instructions for you to enter the actual parade line:

  • The entrants that have letters A - H - you will park your cars in  the most southern parking spaces on the east side of the street which will be marked with Chalk.  If the space is being blocked by a cone, etc. simply move the impediment and park your car.  The Legion Honor Guard and a band, the Grand Marshal then #3 will go first.... then each of the 8 (B - H) cars will follow, proceeded by those entrants beginning with the number 4.

  • There are 7 bands that are being paid to participate in the parade and are being sponsored by local businesses.  Many of the entrants also expressed a desire to play music.  In order to keep the parade orderly without entrant's music playing over the top of each other - I have marked those entrants where I have done my best to optimize the overall event.  For those MARKED IN RED WHERE IT SAYS MUSIC "YES" - I AM ASKING YOU TO PLEASE REFRAIN FROM PLAYING MUSIC and just march in the parade and enjoy yourselves.  If you are upset with where you are in the parade or the decision to ask you to refrain from playing music - I UNDERSTAND!  I would ask that you please show some restraint and understand that our request for you to refrain is based on trying our best for the overall experience.

  • There will be individual who are going to be there to help organize all the entrants - I would ask that you please be polite and take direction....the most important thing is to remember the spirit of the event and enjoy yourself.

  • the street will be marked with numbers - please find your location - approaching from the south ....moving NORTH down Western Ave and find your spot.  UNLESS YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN SPECIFIC INSTRUCTION - DO NOT USE VINE AVENUE!!!  OR TRY TO APPROACH FROM THE NORTH!!!

I WOULD ASK THAT EVERYONE FOLD A PIECE OF PRINTER PAPER IN HALF AND WRITE YOUR NUMBER ON YOUR ENTRANT WHICH WE WILL REPLACE WITH A PRINTED VERSION SUPPLIED BY HELANDERS WHICH YOU CAN STICK TO YOUR ENTRY - WE WILL HAVE TAPE.

REMEMBER - PLEASE FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS - BE NICE, USE YOUR HEAD, ARRIVE EARLY, ARRIVE EARLY, ARRIVE EARLY, ARRIVE EARLY, ARRIVE EARLY

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ON WEDNESDAY MORNING - THIS WILL BE A GREAT PARADE AND A FUN EVENT - SO ENJOY IT!!!

THANKS VERY MUCH: Vinnie Dolan, Lake Forest Day Parade Chairman

Assembly Area:

.

All vehicles that are in the parade should enter Western Ave at Westleigh Rd and precede north to your assigned area. The parade will form after 9:00 A.M. at the intersection of Vine Ave/ Western Ave (SEE MAP BELOW) and extend south on Western Ave to the intersection with Ryan Place. Your assigned parade number will be e-mailed to you in advance or can be received from officials ( wearing a blue American Legion hat) located in your assigned area. Traffic on this section of Western Avenue will be halted for approximately three hours to permit safe parade assembly and execution.
Special notice to all parade entrants/participants: During previous years some parade entrants and/or float vehicles have arrived prior to the designated assembly time - some over two hours before start of the parade. Due to the narrow confines of Western Avenue in the assembly area between Vine Ave and Ryan Place, we cannot accommodate or position any early arrivals. Two-way traffic through the assembly area cannot be halted until 8:15 A.M. All early parade arrivals will be sent away from the assembly area and told to return via Westleigh Road as specified above. Please insure that your parade personnel/drivers do not arrive before 9:00 A.M.
We need 100% cooperation in this vital area, it is a matter of public safety!

Parade Route:

The parade will begin at 10 am at the intersection of Vine Ave/Western Avenue and proceed north on Western Ave to Westminster, (crossing Illinois Road and Deerpath), then turn left (west) on Westminster past Bank Lane, Forest Ave and Oakwood Ave to Summit Ave; then turn right (north) on Summit Ave for one block to the end of the parade route on the side of West Park near the Summit Ave/Summit Place intersection.
